IMAX


Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, Robert Kerr, and William C. Shaw were the co-founders who creatively shook up the cinema industry forever. Some of which attended Galt Collegiate Institute located in Downtown Cambridge.

The film was 10 times the size of the standard 35mm film and required a special projector to display it on a screen six stories tall. IMAX made its debut in 1970 inOsaka, Japan at Expo ‘70. IMAX was a radical change in the movie-going experience with giant screens and complementing sound systems like none other, further supporting that Creativity is Right Here in Waterloo Region.

Galt-born and late founder, Robert Kerr (1929 - 2010), became the Mayor of Galt between 1964 - 1967 and then became the Mayor of Cambridge between 1975-1976.
